Your wedding dress is possibly the single most important dress most women will buy. The feeling of adding a personal touch to such a special garment by making it yourself is unparalleled. Adding touches to make your dress completely unique to you, incorporating memories of loved ones and personal preferences puts you in complete control.
This course is open in terms of time scale but each voucher gives you one day of 1 to 1 attention, whatever stage you are at. Some people want to go through the whole process themselves from design, to pattern creation, toile making and then finally constructing and fitting their finished dress. This process happens over many months and involves a large commitment on the bride’s part to complete the follow up stages between course sessions. Therefore, a reasonable sewing knowledge is helpful so that things progress at a sensible pace.
Alternatively, some people prefer to find a second hand dress and alter it to make it perfect for them. This can reduce the number of days needed but again requires some commitment to complete steps away from the sewing room. Please note, while most things are adaptable, any dress with a large ‘ballgown’ type skirt can be very difficult and time consuming to change because of the number of skirt layers.
Included in the course;
- A day of guidance and knowledge at whatever stage you are up to
- Tips and tricks on altering patterns and choosing fabrics
- Tea/coffee and biscuits/fruit
Not included in the course;
- Any materials or fabric needed for construction
NB – while making your own wedding dress is a fabulous way to add the personal touch please be aware that you will be doing the construction (with supervision while on the course) so it is important to consider the time and skill you will need before embarking on anything that is very elaborate. You will need a sewing machine to complete your home sewing on unless you only wish to sew with me.
