Building on the skills from the beginner course, you will learn how to add zips into your garments. This allows you greater freedom when choosing patterns for your independent sewing. Bring your sewing machine (or borrow mine if you prefer) and learn how to create a well fitted garment from a pattern.
This course will involve making a simple unlined skirt. You will learn to accurately measure and size the garment, blend size lines where needed, cut a pattern, follow the instructions included in pattern envelopes and how to adjust your garment as you go for a perfect fit.
Included in the cost are all course materials;
- a paper pattern for a simple a-line or pencil skirt (as you prefer)
You will need to bring with you;
- 1.5 to 2.5m of non-stretch fabric depending on the fit and size you choose
- one 18cm zip in a suitable colour for your fabric
- thread to match
Bring your sewing machine if you have one although you are welcome to borrow mine, and also bring your lunch. Please note I do not have microwave facilities. Tea, coffee, biscuits and enthusiasm will flow freely though!
Courses are run on Wednesdays and Sundays and can be either run during the day from 10am to 2pm or in the evening from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. Only 2 spaces are available per date to ensure that everyone gets the attention they need and comes away happy that they can continue to sew independently.
Courses are run in the town of Westerham, Kent, which is easily accessed by road and has good public transport links. Please get in contact if you need further help in getting to us.
