Description

A beginner sewing course – bring your own sewing machine (or borrow one of mine) and learn how to set it up, wind a new bobbin, check the thread tension, straight stitch and then hand sew or applique decorations. On this course you will create your own designed envelope cushion cover.

Courses are run on Wednesdays and Sundays and can be either run during the day from 10am to 2pm or in the evening from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. Only 2 spaces are available per session to ensure that everyone gets the attention they need. You should come away happy that you can continue to sew independently.

To allow for personal preference, you will need to bring with you;

  • at least 1m of cotton fabric
  • a cushion inner of around 45cm square
  • a reel of thread
  • Your lunch

Tea, coffee and biscuits all included.

I am happy to recommend places to get your supplies should you need help. Minerva Crafts is a great online place to start though.

Courses are run in the town of Westerham, Kent, which is easily accessed by road and has good public transport links. Please get in contact if you need further help in getting to me or would like more details of the course.

  1. Rebecca

    I really enjoyed my day with Emily learning to use a sewing machine and I’m so so chuffed with my beautiful cushion! A relaxed, informal class in friendly surroundings and Emily is so kind and patient. I treated myself as a birthday present and it was so lovely to spend a few hours doing something just for me. Would definitely recommend and I will be back!

  2. Marta

    I absolutely loved classes with Emily. She’s such a lovely person and a great teacher. I came to the lesson scared of my machine but after the class I wasn’t scared any more. I highly recommend Emily to everyone who would like to learn sewing!

  3. Susie and Helen

    I just wanted to say thank you so much for such an enjoyable (and productive) morning on Sunday. We had a great time and when we got in the car Helen said ‘that was so much fun!’. It was really helpful being able to learn about our own machines and I am feeling much more confident, so much so that when I got home I made another (tiny) cushion with my son and now we are making a peg bag together! You have really inspired me to keep sewing and I appreciated you calm, knowledgable approach, especially when the bobbin didn’t work and the machine got into tangles. I thoroughly recommend the workshops and the relaxed atmosphere in your lovely kitchen made it seem like a morning spent with friends. Thank you
